January 2012 Winter Storm

We got hit with a nasty Winter snow and ice storm here in Olympia last week. It’s not unusual for this type of weather to hit our mountains and/or some parts of Central and Eastern Washington, but it’s rather uncommon here in the Puget Sound Region. Some folks (including some of our staff members) are still without power, now going on 5 days. At one point there were over 250,000 without electricity, including our office, as the ice took out the powerlines and/or caused trees to fall over powerlines.

My apologies for the quality of these images. My cell phone has only a 1.3 megapixel camera so the photos are not the best. That being said, you can click on the photos to see larger images.

Here the snow begins…

The next day brought freezing rain. Here’s a bush directly behind our office:

And finally, here are some images taken later that day and evening on the way home. I still wish I had a decent camera with me, but you get the idea…

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to Spring!

This from TruckingToday.com:

Now is the time to stand up for trucking, says the National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council (NASSTRAC), a group that advocates freight issues on behalf of shippers.

NASSTRAC has organized a one-day fly-in on Capital Hill Febuary 1 where roughly a dozen shipper and trucking organizations will voice their disagreement with regulations they say will bind the trucking industry and raise shipping costs.

Home For The Holidays

Posted in General Announcements with tags , , , on December 12, 2011 by esarsea

It’s that time of year again when dispatchers need to start booking loads that will get their drivers to (or routed through) home for Christmas.

It has been a long-standing tradition for us here at A Plus to assist our carriers with this process. We make every effort to help get drivers home for the holidays.

The sooner you let us know what your needs are, the better chance we have in finding you the ideal load. Please email us at truckpost@aplustran.com or call 800-914-0093 and let us know what we can do to help.

As of the time of this posting, we do have several flower bulb loads from Smith River, CA to the East Coast to ship December 23, 24 and 26th. These loads have 2-to-3 stops and final in  CT, RI or VA. Drivers are welcome to pick up these loads and then go home for Christmas.

Smith River is located on the Oregon-California border out on the coast. These loads are best suited for Oregon trucks, as Smith River must be accessed VIA Eugene OR, West on Hwy 38, to Hwy 101 S  (or VIA Roseburg OR, West on Hwy 42, to Hwy 101 S) and then to Smith River just across the OR/CA border. Length restrictions prevent trucks coming to Smith River directly from CA or VIA Hwy 199 from Grants Pass.

In addition to these shipments we will have other loads available to and from WA and OR leading up to and through the holidays. Let us help you get your drivers home for Christmas!
